NeTEx schema reference

NeTEx (Network Timetable Exchange) is the European standard for exchanging scheduled public transport data: stops, networks, timetables, fares and more. These pages let you browse every element and type in the official XML schemas, with their documentation and the source they come from.

Choose a schema

Each entry point below is a different way into the same set of NeTEx definitions. If you are not sure, start with the full model.

How to use the browser

Every schema page works the same way.

Search the sidebar

Type a name like StopPlace or ServiceJourney to filter thousands of elements and types down to the one you want.

Expand the tree

The home page of each schema shows its structure from the root element. Open a branch to see what can go inside it.

Switch schema sets

All six schema sets share the same element and type pages. The menu at the top of the sidebar switches between them, and the sidebar lists only what the chosen set contains.

See examples

The official NeTEx example files are published with their element names linked, and element pages list the examples that use them.

Follow the links

Element and type pages list their attributes, children and documentation, and link to where each one is used and to the exact line of XSD source.

About this site

The reference generator, prettyxsd, and this site were made by Giles Antonio Radford.

The code that generates the site was written with the help of AI. The documentation itself is not AI-written: every element, type, description and line of source shown here is taken directly from the official NeTEx reference schemas on GitHub.

This is an independent reference, not an official CEN publication.
